Sandringham To Brighton Community Pathway Pilot Walk

Via Sandringham To Brighton Community Pathway on Facebook:

The Sandringham to Brighton Community Pathway is a proposal to invigorate the largely unused 5-6km corridor of land reserved for an F6 freeway through the suburbs of Sandringham, Dolls Point, Sans Souci, Ramsgate, Monterey, Kogarah, Rockdale and Brighton Le Sands into a walking track and bike path that can be enjoyed by the community.

A community pathway in this land corridor would be the missing link between the Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway to the south, the Cooks River Cycleway to the north, and the Inner West Greenway.

This land corridor has been set aside since the 1950’s for a freeway, and the NSW Government has apparently determined that it will not be used for this purpose, and if a road is built, it will be as a tunnel.

This is a historic opportunity to reimagine this green corridor into an asset linking the community and creating a space for families, kids, retirees, walkers and lovers of nature and open space.

We have met with a range of local government authorities and community groups, and we’ve been heartened by the universal support and enthusiasm for the proposal. We’d be very grateful to have the opportunity to address a meeting of your organisation to discuss this proposal.

We are holding a ‘pilot walk’ on the entire length of the corridor pathway on Sunday 15 September at 10am, and we invite all members of your organisation to attend. It will begin at Scott Park, cnr Napoleon and Riverside Drive at Sandringham, and end approximately 2 hours later at Bicentennial Park, Rockdale.

This will be a casual and relaxed walk along the existing track, to introduce residents and walkers alike to the beauty of the walk, and to meet our organisation and other like-minded walkers and lovers of nature and our area. We’d be very pleased to have you and your friends join us. Naturally if some find this distance challenging, please limit yourself to what you can comfortably achieve.

Join the event on the Sun 15 September – 10am to 12pm
