WalkSydney recognises the urgent need for the government’s recently announced Strategic Infrastructure Review. This Review offers the opportunity to comprehensively examine the transport network that NSW needs and the appraisal and selection tools used to define the forward program.
WalkSydney recommends that:
A greater allocation is made to active transport as a proportion of the total transport budget, preferably a rolling program for TfNSW walking and cycling improvements directly
Large budget programs with no requirement for business cases such as pinchpoints and commuter carparks are given closer scrutiny, and
Road projects with a BCR of 1.5:1 or less are halted and given the greatest scrutiny given their risk of realising low (or no) value for money
